Withholding commentary for now, here are two quick points that will be of interest to most:
- Page 27 (NEW) – Federal Judge Bury actually agreed with TUSD’s objection to having Advanced Learning Education (ALE) include Dual Language, so the final USP does not include it.
- Page 37 – The most controversial part that people refer to when discussing “MAS” or “Ethnic Studies.” Notice that what is to be implemented is nothing of the sort, not even close, but rather a “Culturally Relevant Courses (CRC)” which still have to be approved by State Superintendent John Huppenthal, and which Judge Bury admits in his previous court order is subject to HB2281. Bury goes on the say that the state has a “powerful weapon” in stopping any class resembling MAS with their 10% budget cut power.
Also a fact is that the USP was written by a white man, the Special Master Willis Hawley, ordered by a conservative white judge, Federal Judge Bury, and must be implemented by the guilty defendant that is perpetuating the racism to begin with and also a white man, TUSD Superintendent John Pedicone.
Another fact is that Pedicone told the TUSD audience at the TCC that the racism is not a current problem, and appointed a person who believed racism no longer exists to supervise the MAS program, and Federal Judge Bury lifted the Deseg order on TUSD in 2009, believing that all racism and segregation in Tucson’s largest school district was gone.
These three white men are the ones in charge of ending racism in TUSD, and these three men are the reason the MAS program, which was created by Tucson’s Mexican American community, was killed and not brought back.
These three White Men know what is best when it comes to racism, just like the billionaire bankers know what is best when it comes to ending the foreclosures and poverty that they caused?
